Dr Daniel Buchanan

Dr Buchanan has a PhD in molecular genetics and over 19 years of laboratory experience in genetic and epigenetic testing and analysis.

He is a Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Colorectal Oncogenomics Group appointed via the Research at Melbourne University Accelerator Program (R@MAP). His current research interests focus on 1) Improving diagnostic approaches for Lynch syndrome, 2) Identifying relevant subtypes of colorectal neoplasia through tumour profiling, and 3) Identifying novel genetic susceptibility loci for familial colorectal cancer and colonic polyposis syndromes through next generation sequencing and GWAS approaches.  He is the co-principal investigator of the Australasian Colorectal Cancer Family Registry and is the chair of both the “Gene discovery & Post-GWAS” and “Molecular Pathology” working groups and a member of the steering committee for the International Colon Cancer Family Registry Cohort.  He is also a lead investigator of the Melbourne Collaborative Cohort Study for colorectal cancer.
