Associate Professor Boussioutas is an academic gastroenterologist working in the field of gastrointestinal oncology.

He is Associate Dean (Research Training) at the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences; Deputy Director of Gastroenterology at Royal Melbourne Hospital and Head of Gastroenterology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He heads the GI division of the Familial Cancer Clinic at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and has an active research laboratory.

Dr Boussioutas’ research is focused on translational medicine with gastrointestinal programs spanning the entire GI tract. This includes disciplines such as epidemiology, screening and prevention, early diagnosis, molecular medicine and clinical outcomes research. He performs endoscopy and has expertise in endoscopic screening and therapeutics. He was on the expert committee writing the guidelines for Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer.  He has been an invited expert on working groups convened by the Department of Health and Human Services Victoria in the areas of Colorectal Cancer, Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer and Endoscopy.
