Dr Dowty is a biostatistician with 12 years of experience in developing and applying sophisticated statistical techniques to analyse family data.
His research interests include segregation analysis, parent-of-origin effects, methylation array analysis, Mendelian randomization, information geometry, statistical model selection and machine learning. He completed a PhD in pure mathematics in 2001 before retraining as a statistician and joining the field of biostatistics in 2004. He was a recipient of the NHMRC-funded Australian Medical Bioinformatics Resource (AMBeR) Postdoctoral Fellowship in the years 2007-2009. To improve his understanding of the cross-disciplinary field in which he works, he recently completed an MSc in biology.
